So, what is the PRINCE2?

The PRINCE2® (Projects in Controlled Environments) project management method is the leading process-based methodology. PRINCE2 can be applied to any project regardless of scale, type, organization, geography, or culture and is used widely by the UK government and international organisations.

What does it cover?

Whenever we want to do something, build something, achieve something or go somewhere, we need to answer some questions:

  • What are we trying to do?
  • When will we start?
  • What do we need?
  • Can we do it alone, or do we need help?
  • How long will it take?
  • How much will it cost?

These are the usual questions asked at the start of any project, and the answers are the building blocks of project management. They define what we want to do and the best way we can do it.

PRINCE2 comprises a set of principles, a set of control themes, a project lifecycle and guidance on matching the method to the project’s environment. The processes detail a set of activities that are required to direct, manage, and deliver a project. The methodology focuses on continuous business justification, a defined structure for the PM team and a product-based planning approach.
